The Most Common Plus Size Wedding Dress Malfunctions & How to Prevent Them
Sometimes in life, we find ourselves battling little complications. For brides, that can look like a wedding dress malfunction on the big day.
Even with months of planning (in some cases down to the very minute) unexpected slips have a sneaky way of popping up. With that being said, there is still no need to worry! Life happens!
In this post, we share some of the most common plus size wedding dress malfunctions and how to fix them in a snap! This way you can add them to the arsenal to keep your wedding day stress free.
Unsexy Bra Strap
During the numerous fitting sessions, it was never an issue, but now you find yourself battling with your bra straps. Now keep in mind, the vasty majority of gowns do not require a bra. However, some of us are more comfortable with one!
Luckily, there are a few tried and true ways to tackle your bra strap debacle. For starters, if you have straps that keep sliding into view, make sure you have a few sets of bra strap converter clips on hand.
These clips help hide straps by converting your bra to a cross-back style. For dresses with open backs, fashion tape is the ultimate solution for a slippy strapless bra.
Misbehaving Zipper
You slip into your plus size wedding gown and BOOM…. It won’t zip. At this moment, it might feel like your heart is about to stop. BUT we’re here to tell you to TAKE A DEEP BREATH. Even though a stuck zipper seems like the end-all of wedding dress mishaps, it’s truly an easy fix!
First thing is to make sure the zipper isn’t caught on any fabric. This may seem silly, but trust us, it happens to the best of us.
If the fabric isn’t the culprit, you may need some help from a zipper lubricant. Zipper lube helps the zipper regain movement. You also can instruct one person to hold the top of the zipper together while another zips. This helps guide the zipper into place.
If all else fails, make sure you have a sewing kit on hand because you may need to get sewn into your dress (this happens way more than you may think). Again keep in mind, its very unlikely this would happen.
Sneaky Stain
You’re standing at the mirror admiring your final look, when suddenly, something catches your eye… and it sends chills down your spine. There’s a stain on your crisp, white plus size wedding dress!
Though we try our hardest, make-up stains are sometimes unavoidable. If this malfunction hits on your wedding day, make sure to have some stain-removing wipes on hand. We recommend stain wipes specifically made for luxury fabrics, such as Silk clean stain remover wipes for silk or On the Spot stain remover wipes for wool and cotton.
One tip, before applying wipes directly to the stain, make sure to test it out on a hidden part of the dress (such as the hem) to eliminate any chance of further damage. Also remember, your photographer can easily edit out any spots so it isn't visible in your photos! We all notice flaws way more than anyone else would - so chances are unless its a huge stain, it will go unnoticed.
